30 years of renewable energies

May 27 marks the 30th anniversary of Decree-Law 189/88, which allowed the opening of electricity production to the private sector in Portugal.
The DL 189/88 had political and technical aspects. In addition to the opening up of the private sector to the production sector, there was a bet on renewable energy, given the considerable increase in electricity consumption at that time. This has reversed what had been the norm since the beginning of the 1970s: loss of weight of renewable sources in the national energy mix, with an increase in fossil power plants.
