Portuguese wind power production achieves a new record

The national electrical system registered a new record of daily wind generation. According to information released by REN, on February 1, 102.8 GWh were produced, surpassing the previous maximum value of 101.9 GWh, recorded only nine days earlier. Also worth noting is the maximum power of 4,594 MW, which also represents a historical value.

At the date mentioned above, 63% of electricity in Portugal was produced from wind power sources. Of the total production of 180 gigawatt hours (GWh), about 3.7% (6.7 MWh) was exported.

These numberes were highlighted by the international association WindEurope, which on its website referred to Portugal as the European country with the largest wind power production on February 1.

APREN welcomes this achievement as it demonstrates the capacity of our endogenous and technical resources for more sustainable energy production, in line with the goals recently announced in the National Energy and Climate Plan 2030.
