Pedro Amaral Jorge (APREN, President of the Board)

Pedro Amaral Jorge graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, and also holds an EMBA specializing in Finance and Operations from IESE/AESE.  

In her previous professional experience, she served as a specialist in structuring and financing private sector investment projects for the African Development Bank (AfDB), in the areas of Infrastructure, Energy, and Water and Sanitation in Africa, with a focus on the sub-Saharan region. 

In addition to his career path, Pedro Amaral Jorge also has a history of developing public utility service concession projects and BOT (Build, Operate and Transfer) projects, as well as financing, planning, construction and management, accumulating more than 15 years of international experience, having worked and lived in different markets, especially in Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East.  

He has a total of 20 years of professional experience in top management positions, holding roles such as Business Unit Director, Executive Committee Member, Executive Director and CEO in companies such as Mitsubishi/METITO Utilities, Indaqua / Grupo Mota-Engil, SACYR/SOMAGUE and IDOM. 

He joined APREN in December 2018, serving as President of the Board.

It focuses particularly on renewable energy, energy system transformation, and specializes in the areas of chemicals, waste, and waste management.

She is also an expert in renewable energy support schemes, focusing on feed-in mechanisms with their various variations and developments.

During the famous debate over the first German FiT scheme between 1997 and 2001, she was a legal advisor to the German Ministry of the Environment.

In addition to cooperating with European institutions, it works for international organizations such as the World Bank and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

The German government is working on renewable electricity trading with the MENA region and has been evaluating the conditions for supporting renewable energy in those countries.

Currently, she is a senior specialist on a contract with the German BMU regarding the development of the German FiT.

He has represented the Director of the European Renewable Energy Federation (EREF) for over 11 years.
